If you need to replace or repair a windshield, you will have several options. Some may be better than others, and it can be overwhelming deciding what to do. Leaving a cracked or chipped windshield untouched will end up causing more damage to the glass in the long run. It's best to have this fixed sooner rather than later. Here are some options to consider.



For replacing the glass, it has to be figured first how it will be taken out. Even though it is shattered into countless pieces, the glass would have to be removed from the edges before installing a new one. For a door glass, the door panel has to be removed to access the mechanism that moves the window up and down. The glass is attached below. The fix auto glass and rear window glass requires the trim and the rubber gasket to be removed. The rubber gasket has to be replaced with a new one as the new one is installed. The car manual will be of help for removing and replacing the glass.

Any of these stone chips can be repaired. Beyond looking for these types of common chips, it is important to take into consideration the size of the damage. If the damage cannot be covered by a half dollar, the chip is too large to be repaired. Another important piece of information to consider is the acute area. The acute area is the area of the windshield directly in the drivers line of vision. It is the same size as a piece of paper being held horizontally in front of the driver. In this area, the National Glass Association does not recommend a repair being done unless it is no greater than .95 of an inch. An easier way to imagine this is that a quarter should be able to cover the entire area of damage in the acute area.

The first lesson you must learn is critical to your success. Marketing done right does not cost you money, it makes you money. If you were to do a poll of windshield repair techs asking them how much they spend on their marketing, you'd find that most of them would laugh and say zero. They'd be proud of that. They'd brag how they wouldn't waste their money on marketing. They say word-of-mouth and knocking on doors is their marketing plan.

Spare yourself the trouble and get that window fixed as soon as possible. You don't want that small blemish to become a bigger blemish that can cause injury to you and your friends.
